AbleData - “Your
Source for Assistive Technology Information." AbleData maintains a comprehensive, annotated AT
library of over 36,000 product listings in 20 categories with funding from the
National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research. The site also features a good listing of
resources and links to national and international sites on the web.
CATEA - “National
Public Website on Assistive Technology." A good resource with over 22,000
products in its library. The site provides
access to information on AT devices and services as well as other community
resources for people with disabilities and the general public.
AT in Employment
JAN - Job Accomodation Network.
The Job Accommodation
Network (JAN) is the leading source of free, expert, and confidential guidance
on workplace accommodations and disability employment issues. Working toward
practical solutions that benefit both employer and employee, JAN helps people
with disabilities enhance their employability, and shows employers how to
capitalize on the value and talent that people with disabilities add to the
workplace. JAN is supported by the US
Department of Labor.
Accessible Transportation
Project
Action
Easter Seals Project Action is the primary web resource for
information on accessible mobility and offers links to other specialized topics
such as the use of wheelchairs in community transportation. Project Action is supported by the Federal
Transit Administration.
Technical Assistance
RESNA
RESNA is the "Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive
Technology Society of North America." The organization's legal name is
RESNA. This membership organization
strives to maximize the health and well being of people with disabilities
through technology. The purpose of RESNA
is to contribute to the public welfare through scientific, literary, professional
and educational activities by supporting the development, dissemination, and
utilization of knowledge and practice of rehabilitation and assistive
technology in order to achieve the highest quality of life for all
citizens.
Pass It On Center
The Pass It On Center is a national, federally funded,
project designed to provide coordination and support in the event of natural
disasters to assure that reutilized assistive technology can reach those who
need it quickly. Pass It On Center
offers telephone and email technical assistance through its Rapid Response Solutions
Desk to various requests. In addition,
the Center strives to establish national
transportation and electronic networks for the well-coordinated distribution of
reutilized AT.
Catalyst Project
The national technical assistance provider to State AT Act
entities. There is lots of information
that individuals who are not associated with a State AT program can benefit
from.
